Alessandra Felluga – From family dynasty to going it alone
A name can mean everything in the world of wine. To be called Alessandra Felluga, and bear such a famous surname, is a great privilege and an even greater responsibility. Wine is tradition but also innovation. Wine must be honest with the fruit it comes from and enhance its sense of place. For me, these are the fundamental conditions for making unique fine wines. Wine is a question of character and style. I believe that Castello di Buttrio wines strongly reflect the way I live my life, my relationships and my challenges, too. Castello di Buttrio is my winery. My aspiration is to turn it into a little universe where all the components come together in a complete sensory experience.
Alessandra Felluga has flanked her vineyards with a traditional “locanda”, or inn, and a small hotel de charme where she receives guests who appreciate the peace, warm hospitality and ever-changing colours of the vineyard setting.
Guests can observe at first hand how Alessandra interprets her winegrowing heritage. Respect for the territory is paramount, a principle that Alessandra as an estate owner and mother considers her duty towards future generations. Commitment, decisiveness, tenacity and dedication – qualities shared by all her staff – have over the years brought increasingly impressive results as the estate moves closer to its goal of making benchmark Friuli Colli Orientali DOC wines.
